We Fished for a Living

Southport’s “Gentleman Giant” will be honored in a special exhibit at the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport. “We Fished for a Living” features the story of Elias “Nehi” Gore. Like many others during the first half of the 20th Century, Gore supported his family working in the fishing industry. Standing at 7’8, Gore stood out among others, not only in height, but in his contributions to the people of Southport. Exhibit opens Friday, Feb. 1, with refreshments being served from 2-4 p.m.
