Tobacco Heritage Day at the Farm

Tobacco Heritage Day at the Farm

Living History, For the Family
For much of the 20th century, tobacco was the main cash crop for Horry County and the Pee Dee Region. During the late summer, leaves would be gathered and taken to the barn to be strung and cured. This process required participation from all family members, down to young children, whose job would be to hand the tobacco leaves to a stringer. Join us to relive this experience on Tobacco Heritage Day, with gathering, hand tying and stringing of tobacco and a variety of other activities such as grinding grits and meal, cooking on a wood stove, blacksmithing, and traditional music.
